Trendy Yoga Clothes - Do You Buy This?

What do you guys think about the movement toward trendy yoga clothes? It seems there are yoga wear specialty shops popping up everywhere - and what did I find on my wife's Christmas list last year, trendy yoga wear from Lululemon.

Lululemon.com seems to be sweeping the nation - they are rapidly expanding their yoga wear shops, not to mention their growing online presence. There is an argument brewing over true yoga lifestyle believers who shun trendy yoga clothes and the millions upon millions of others who are more casual practicers of yoga.

What's interesting is that I know a few people who don't even practice yoga, probaby don't even know what it really is, yet they shop at these yoga clothes shops.

In fact, on our site at Yoga Success, the Yoga Clothes pages are some of the most popular as people look at yoga as the "in-thing", fashionable and trendy.

What about you?

I suppose I am concerned how I look in public, when I take a yoga class. Like anything else, when something becomes more popular you begin to compare yourself against others - if they wear trendy yoga clothes, then shouldn't you?

It will be interesting to see how this entire yoga wear business shakes out in the coming months and years - for now, we would all be advised to spend more time on practicing yoga and less time shopping for yoga clothes.

Not all athletic wear is adaptable to yoga. I run, play tennis and own a variety of active wear. However, when I started yoga I quickly realized not all of it is suitable to yoga. 1. You don't want to be tugging at clothes that ride up. It makes it hard to stay focused. 2. If it's too loose you will be baring all during the headstand or other inverted poses. 3. Thick seams can really dig in when you start holding the poses for longer amounts of time.4. If you are flexible enough to manage a difficult pose, you want your clothes to be just as flexible.
So I think yoga specific gear is great. I think the prices are criminal.
