Yoga and Meditation As Sports Injury Therapy?

An increasing number of studies are showing the benefit of yoga and meditation
in treating and preventing sports injury.

Yoga and meditation helps in at least 3 different ways:

1. The mental aspect of yoga and meditation improves athletes ability to focus,
achieve greater balance and increased endurance - all helping to prevent injury.

2. Yoga and meditation can help significantly in physically rebounding from
debilitating injuries - providing focused rehabilitation and moderate strengthening
exercise that can reduce recovery times. It is critical however to avoid strenuous
yoga asanas and carefully work with your physiotherapy or sports injury professional
when incorporating yoga and meditation into your rehab regime.

3. The mental aspect of yoga and meditation cannot be underestimated. Anyone who has ever been injured or had
to recover from any debilitating illness knows that your mental state is just as
important to recovery (perhaps even more important) than physical development.
Yoga and mediation is one of the few practices that can help in both mental and
physical recovery.

Prevention is, of course, the best medicine, so whether you are looking to become
more athletic or are recovering from a sports injury, consider yoga and meditation
as a method to accelerate your recovery.
